Computer Engineering Technology is an exciting career option for students to consider. This program combines electronics and digital theory as they relate to computers. It bridges the gap between hardware and software by providing a solid foundation in both domains while tying the disciplines together with a curriculum that has intensive classroom and laboratory components. Graduates will be prepared for employment in the areas of microprocessor/PC-based systems and digital/analog equipment control applications. Experiences in computer program development along with data acquisition and control will prepare graduates for careers in the troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware, software, networking, and interfaces.
This program option also provides for a direct transfer into the four-year Computer Science Degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Calculus I and II (8 credits) are required for transfer.
The Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology Program at Western and the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse (UW-L) Computer Science Department have been awarded a National Science Foundation grant ($597,000 over 4 years) through the Science Technology Engineering and Math Scholarship program. Students studying full-time in the Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology Program (CET emphasis) at Western and the Computer Science program at UW-L are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
