About Our Teams

Eligibility

All full-time students enrolled in a program at Western are eligible to try out for Western athletic programs. Tryouts are held at the beginning of each team's practice season. The classroom success of athletes is important to us. Athletes are required to maintain satisfactory grades as full-time students to remain eligible for play. Coaches and the Western Athletic Director monitor academic progress and refer athletes who need additional academic support to appropriate college services. Transfer students are welcome to participate in Western athletic programs, but should check with the Athletic Director to discuss their eligibility.

Wellness Center

For weight training and conditioning, athletes use the Western Wellness Center, located on the La Crosse campus. The Wellness Center has a gym, an exercise room, a room for fitness classes. The exercise room has weight machines, dumbbells, stair steppers, exercise bikes, treadmills, an Airdyne exerciser and a cross-country ski machine. A variety of fitness classes are offered, from aerobics to yoga. students with 6 or more credits pay $15.00 a semester. Wellness Center website.

Student Health Clinic

Western students have access to primary healthcare and sports medicine and sports injury rehab services through a Student Health Clinic and an attached Physical Therapy Clinic. The Student Health Clinic is in the Health Science Center located seven blocks from campus. Students from Western and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse share the clinic.

Travel and Expenses

Western's Student Government supports Western's athletic programs through student activity fees. Fees cover all travel and most equipment costs. The teams also hold fund-raisers to help pay for athletic shoes and Western travel gear.
