The College operates a Wellness Center in the Administrative Center, located at the corner of 7th and Main Street. The Wellness Center is open over 70 hours per week during the academic year and is also available for use during the summer. The facility is funded by a combination of student activity fees from student government and membership fees from staff, alumni, retirees, and students. Students taking six or more credits can take out a membership for $15 a semester. Students taking less than 6 credits can get a monthly membership for $25, or save more with an annual rate.

As a member of the Wellness Center, you have access to cardiovascular equipment, Nautilis Nitro strength training equipment, free weights, a swimming pool and whirlpool, and a gymnasium. A variety of fitness classes are taught on-site. Students can enroll in fitness classes without a membership. Full shower facilities along with locker and towel rental are also available. Equipment orientation is offered to all members, in addition to one-on-one personal training, fitness assessments, and individual fitness program design. A valid student ID is required for entry into the Wellness Center.

Additional programs include intramural sport leagues and tournaments. Students have the opportunity to participate in an assortment of team and individual sports regardless of skill level or experience. The Wellness Center also serves the campus by coordinating a number of activities throughout the year, such as workshops on personal health issues, a campus wide wellness fair, and other special events. You do not need to have a membership to participate in any of the above activities.

Another service available at the Wellness Center is massage therapy. A certified massage therapist is available by appointment for a nominal fee.

Student Health Insurance

Western Technical College DOES NOT carry medical insurance to cover students while attending classes at the College. This means that each student is responsible for his/her own coverage in case of an injury, accident, or incident that might require medical attention. Students who are not covered under a parent’s policy, or an employer, or a personal policy are urged to arrange for coverage.

Comprehensive student health insurance, covering accident and illness, is available at a group rate through a private firm. Premiums are paid by the student and forms can be picked up at the Student Development or Registrar’s Office.
