Parking and Security

Parking and Permits

Parking in Western lots is available on a first-come, first-serve basis with a valid parking permit. To park in a Western lot, you will need to purchase a $77 annual permit valid for all campus parking lots except the Residence Hall, lot A and lot J; an $85.00 permit to park in any lot except the Residence Hall lot or lot J; or a $50 annual permit valid for lots D, E, and F only (those lots not immediately adjacent to all buildings). Day permits are also available at a cost of $2.00 per day. All permits are available throughout the year in the Student Development Office, Kumm building room 100. Permits are sold at half price for the second semester. Do NOT park in spaces reserved for visitors, motorcycles, or the handicapped or you will be ticketed.

Because space in the parking lots is limited, many students park on city streets. If you do, remember to abide by city parking laws.

Campus Security

The Security Office, which is located in Kumm Center, Room 100, is dedicated to ensuring a safe and secure campus, which in turn provides a secure learning environment.

The College’s security force patrols the La Crosse campus throughout the day and night. You can report an emergency on the La Crosse campus by using any campus information service telephone or by calling 608.785.9191. For other Western campuses, report all emergencies to the main office of that campus.

Emergency Messages for Students

Students may receive emergency messages during the school day through the Campus Operator 608.785.9200 or Campus Security 608.785.9191.

Students may also register for an alternative message service with the Student Development Office. This service requires that a student give the office daily schedules so that they can be contacted anytime they are on campus. This service is especially helpful for parents with young children. For both message services, contact the Student Development Office, Kumm Center, Room 100, or call 608.785.9445.

Safety Escort Service

A staff member or security officer is available for any student wishing to be accompanied to their vehicle for safety reasons. If you would like this service, call 608.785.9191 or pick up one of the campus information/security phones and request an escort on the La Crosse campus, or contact the main office on any other Western campus.

Lost and Found

Lost and found is located in Kumm Center, Room 100 (Student Development), 608.785.9585. Staff will try to locate owners of items labeled with names. At the end of the year, usable items that have not been claimed will be donated to charity.
