Exit Loan Counseling - Q & A
I received Exit Loan Counseling materials in the mail, but I have completed Exit Loan Counseling before - why do I have to complete it again?
It is likely a student will be required to complete Exit Loan Counseling several times during his/her college career, as it is required EACH TIME a student:
- Drops below ½ time enrollment (6 credits)
- Completes a program (or graduates)
I just completed the LPN program, but I am continuing in the RN program, why do I have to complete Exit Loan counseling?
As stated above, EACH TIME a student completes a program, he/she must complete Exit Loan Counseling. Your student loans will remain on 'in-school deferment' (deferred payments) as long as you are enrolled at least ½ time (6 credits).
I transferred from Western to another school where I am enrolled at least ½ time, do I have to complete Exit Loan Counseling?
Yes - Each time a student drops below ½ time enrollment (6 credits), he/she is required to complete Exit Loan Counseling. Your student loans will remain on 'in-school deferment' (deferred payments) as long as you are enrolled at least ½ time (6 credits at Western, check with your new school to confirm what constitutes ½ time enrollment there).
Does completing Exit Loan counseling affect my ability to receive student loans in the future?
No, completing Exit Loan Counseling in no way affects a student's ability to receive student loans, or any other Federal Financial Aid funds, in the future.
