Federal Parent Plus Loans (PLUS)

The Federal PLUS loan is a federally backed program for parents to help meet the educational expenses of their child, the student. Certain credit conditions apply and a credit check is required. The interest rate is fixed at 8.5%. Interest accrues and payment usually begins after disbursement of loan funds. Parents may sign the promissory note electronically with a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To obtain a PIN, apply at www.pin.ed.gov. Plus loan proceeds will be applied to any outstanding balance on the student's account. If the PLUS loan exceeds the student's outstanding balance, a change check will be mailed to the parent from Western's Cashier's office. Parents may choose any lender and complete the PLUS MPN online.
