Planned Giving

Would you like to leave a lasting legacy that will help future generations of young people and, in turn, the greater community? Consider a planned gift to Western Technical College.

Leaving a Legacy

Planned giving offers a unique opportunity for you to help Western Technical College ensure the College's ability to continue to change the lives of people and communities; the Western Foundation has created "The Coleman Circle."

Generally, planned gifts are made through a bequest in a will; a charitable trust or annuity; a gift of real estate, personal property (stocks or bonds), or life insurance. Often, a planned gift provides a means for an individual to make a larger gift than originally thought possible. And often, current income and estate taxes can be reduced.

A gift through your will

Remembering Western Technical College through a bequest in your will helps to insure the mission of the College for many years to come.

Give a gift that pays you an income for life

Through a charitable gift annuity, you can avoid capital gains tax, receive a one-time tax deduction, and receive an income from the gift for life. Cash and appreciated assets (like stocks and securities) may be used to fund these trusts.

Make a gift of life insurance

You can make Western Technical College the owner/beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. Premiums for such a gift may be deducted from your taxable income.

Give your home and live in it

You may give your home or vacation home to Western Technical College as a life estate, take a tax deduction for the property, and continue to occupy the house for as long as you live.

These are just some of the planned giving options available.
Through endowments created by members of the Coleman Circle, the Foundation is able to support scholarships for Western students, professional development programs for faculty and staff, and special capital projects for the College. Your leadership may cause others to stop and think of how they too can help.

Named for John Coleman, longtime District Director of the La Crosse Vocational School (now Western Technical College), the Coleman Circle is a group of very special friends who have included Western in their estate plans.
