Western Technical College held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lunda Center on Tuesday at the La Crosse campus. The groundbreaking was held inside the former automotive technician area in the Coleman Center, which is the future location of the new facility.
The Lunda Center, a community and corporate training center, will offer specialized training for area businesses and help address the growing skilled labor shortage. The center is named after Milt and Lydi Lunda, owners of Lunda Construction in Black River Falls, Wis., and longtime Western supporters.
The $3.3 million center will be funded through borrowing and by raising $2.8 million through private donations. A total of $2.4 million has been raised so far. Demolition and construction will begin next week with completion scheduled for fall 2009.
