The Western Technical College Board Appointment Committee, consisting of the 11 County Board Chairs in the Western Technical College District, recently appointed one new member and reappointed two current members to Western’s District Board. The terms of the three appointments will begin July 1, 2008 and extend through June 30, 2011.

Lynn Chakoian, of Viroqua, Wis., was appointed to serve as an Additional Member on the District Board. Chakoian was elected to serve on the Vernon County Board of Supervisors from April 2006 to April 2008, and is currently serving as the chair of the Vernon County Comprehensive Plan Commission. She is also active on the boards of Valley Stewardship Network, Waysmeet, Inc, and the McIntosh Memorial Library. She brings experience and education in soil conservation, land resources, and grant-writing to her position on the board.

Sarah G. (Sally) Lister, of Black River Falls, Wis., an incumbent candidate, was re-appointed to serve as an Additional Member on the District Board. Lister has served on the board since 1996. She has represented Western on the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association, and has been a champion for technical education, as well as a leading spokesperson on many legislative issues facing the Wisconsin Technical College System.

James T. Shilling, of Sparta, Wis., an incumbent candidate, was re-appointed to serve as the Elected Official Member on the board. Shilling joined the Western Technical College District Board in 2005. He is an elected supervisor serving on the Monroe County Board of Supervisors and is also serving as the chairperson of Monroe County Human Services. He is a retired instructor and assistant principal of Sparta High School, and has continued to serve in education through the mentoring programs in the Sparta area schools, and as a guest lecturer in history and social studies at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
