Western graphic design students win awards in two competitions

Graphic Design students from Western Technical College received honors in the annual Gutenberg Awards Competition and the Graphic Communications Poster Contest. Both contests are sponsored by the International Graphic Arts Education Association (IGAEA), which is made up of art educators from colleges and high schools throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Japan.
The Gutenberg Awards Competition drew over 400 entries, which were displayed at the annual IGAEA conference. The first place winners from the competition’s 15 categories were then judged for the Best of Show Awards.
Ten Western students received awards:
Best of Show Award – Lauren Klubertanz, of Holmen, Wis.
Process Color Electronic Publishing Category:
First Place – Lauren Klubertanz, of Holmen, Wis.
Second Place – Jamie Oestreich, of La Crosse, Wis.
Third Place – Kayla Wagner, of La Crosse, Wis.
Fourth Place – Eric Osterby, of Stoddard, Wis.
Fifth Place – Dustin Stremcha, of La Crescent, Minn.
Certificate of Merit – Kabau Vue, of Onalaska, Wis.
Certificate of Merit – Lucas Heineman, of La Crosse, Wis.
Certificate of Merit – Nathan Johnson, of La Crosse, Wis.
Spot Color Electronic Publishing Category:
First Place – Delia Pitkin, of Cashton, Wis.
Second Place – Eric Nagle, of Onalaska, Wis.
Klubertanz also tied for second place in the Graphic Communications Poster Contest. She received $125 for her winning entry. The purpose of the contest is to create awareness of the printing industry and to promote print week, which is celebrated in January.
