Western offers free basic computer skills training

An increased number of dislocated workers and returning veterans has led Western Technical College to offer a basic computer skills training session. Two days this month, students in Western’s Computer Support Specialist program will be conducting the free training as part of a team-building class.
On Wednesday, Nov. 18, the session will be held from 12:15-1:45 p.m., in the Business Education Center, room 110, on the La Crosse Campus. On Thursday, Nov. 19, from 1:30-3:00 p.m., the session will be held in the Business Education Center, room 205. Training will cover use of Blackboard, PowerPoint, e-mailing, and other basic computer skills.
“We heard that a number of people have been returning to school with little or no computer skills, so we thought this is a great opportunity not only for those returning students, but for our current Computer Support Specialist students,” said Gretchen Heilman, Western Computer Support Specialist instructor. “They need to know how to train people on computers in their careers, so this is excellent experience for them to have.”
Registration for the training is encouraged, but not required, by contacting Heilman at firstname.lastname@example.org or (608) 789-4764. For information about additional programs and services at Western, call 608.785.9200 or visit the Web site at westerntc.edu.
