Hana Carl, Western Technical College student and Fennimore High School graduate, was recently named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIII All-region Team, which consists of junior college teams in Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Carl was also voted Western’s team MVP for 2011.

“As a freshman and one of two starting setters, she exhibited great leadership qualities on and off the court,” said Coach Jake Kujak. “She did an excellent job managing our offense and was herself a very consistent and reliable player on both the offense and defense. I believe we were a better team for her outstanding team-first play, her leadership by her example, and her ability to play at a consistently high level.”

Carl finished the season as the leader in assists with 184. She was also second on the team in kills with 73 on 164 attempts, only 4 behind the leader and a ratio of .445. Sixteen blocks, 49 digs, and 22 aces round out her stats for 55 games played.

Western advanced to the NJCAA Region XIII regional, where they were defeated by Ridgewater Community College in semi-final action. Ridgewater, currently ranked #1 in the country, advances to the NJCAA National Tournament after defeating Rochester Community College in the finals of the regional tournament.
