Western Technical College will be offering a new Medical Administrative Professional associate’s degree this spring semester, which starts Jan. 16.
After two years of market studies and gathering input from focus groups made up of local business and industry partners, the curriculum has been established and students are being accepted into the program.
“Our business partners have been instrumental in developing this new program,” said Gary Brown, dean of Western’s Business division. “We used their input to ensure that these graduates will be ready to meet the needs of local employers.”
The Medical Administrative Professional program prepares students to understand, function in, and supervise the business-related tasks of a medical office. Career opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, rehabilitation/nursing care facilities.
Embedded in the 66-credit program is a technical diploma entitled Health Office Professional (33 credits) and a certificate entitled Health Office Assistant (12 credits).
