Western Technical College will offer a Basic Jailer Academy for those interested in an entry-level position as a County Jailer in Wisconsin. This classroom and scenario-based instruction is set to run Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 13- Nov. 16, from 7:50 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at the Sparta Public Safety Training Facility, 11177 County Road A.

Western’s Basic Jailer Academy is a 160-hour, basic training course that meets the State of Wisconsin’s Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) requirements for certification. Employed candidates become certified upon presentation of their academy transcripts to the LESB and upon board approval. Candidates seeking employment (pre-service) have two years from completion of the Jailer Academy to secure a County Jail Officer position in order to become certified.

The cost for the academy is $685.00, which is due upon registration, and $27.15 for CPR text and Mask. Registration is due by Aug. 15 and is on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, contact Sheila Schendel at schendels@westerntc.edu for an information packet and registration forms.
