Western offers business & industry seminars

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Western Technical College’s Business and Industry Services Division is offering a series of workshops and training opportunities for area businesses at several of Western’s campuses.
“The Effective Facilitator” will be held Tuesday, October 23 from 9 a.m.–noon at Western’s Black River Falls Campus. This seminar is designed for anyone wanting maximum results from meetings. Learn the role of the facilitator, steps to planning an effective meeting, when and how to use icebreakers, and intervention techniques that will allow all participants to be heard. The seminar cost is $62. Please register by October 16.
“Microsoft Office 2007 Updates” will be held Tuesday, October 23 from 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Western’s Tomah Campus. Get a detailed overview of the new Microsoft interface and get tips and tricks for using the ribbon and the new file formats to increase efficiency and collaboration. The seminar cost is $62. Please register by October 16.
“Supervision Essentials” will be held Wednesday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at Western’s La Crosse Campus. This seminar is designed for new and/or recently promoted managers. Participants will learn about supervisory skills necessary for success in a managerial role, including communication, planning, delegating, and maintaining a positive attitude. The seminar cost is $62. Please register by October 17.
“The Art and Science of Interviewing” will be held Wednesday, October 24 from 1p.m.–4 p.m. at Western’s La Crosse Campus. We’ll delve into effective interviewing methods, discuss parts of an effective interview, determine when to use a variety of techniques and interviewing strategies, and discuss how to make the decision. The seminar cost is $62. Please register by October 17.
“Excel” will be offered twice, on Thursday, October 25 from 9 a.m.–noon and Friday, October 26 from 9 a.m.–noon. In this hands-on seminar, participants will learn to work with multiple-sheet workbooks, set up a workbook with a master sheet, and detail sheets. You’ll also learn about formulas, using the IF function, and consolidating data using 3-D formulas. The seminar cost is $67. Please register by October 18.
