FWS is available to students who wish to earn wages to help assist with college living expenses. Students are paid twice monthly and can work up to 10 hours per week, earning $7.70 per hour. Students interested in FWS must apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have already completed FAFSA and are interested in a Work Study position, go to www.westerntc.edu/financialaid/workstudy.asp and check out the jobs that are currently available. Take advantage of the drop in Flu Shot Clinic while you’re on campus. Western and the Student Health Center are sponsoring the annual flu shot clinic for Western students. No appointment necessary. In salute to our brave men and women who have or are currently serving our country, a Veteran's Day ceremony will be held in the Kumm Center, Student Union on Thursday, November 10 at 12:25 - 1:20 p.m. The event will include special guest speakers highlighting past, present, and future sacrifices of veterans and their families and what it means to be a veteran today. The 2011-12 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the upcoming school year beginning August 24, 2011 is available online at www.fafsa.gov. Please complete your FAFSA as soon as possible to be considered for all available financial aid. Western does not have a priority date for filing the FAFSA, however, it is in your best interest to complete the FAFSA early. Western’s financial aid office processes award information as documents are received. Please review your “To Do” list on the “My Western” portal for possible documents financial aid may be requesting. We hope to start sending award EMAILS for the 11/12 school year in late July.Satisfactory Academic Progress for Fin. Aid The Dept. of Ed. recently amended the Higher Education Act and with it created new Program Integrity Rules related to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for financial aid. Because of these new regulations, Western’s SAP rules will be as follows starting Fall 2011: “To maintain acceptable QUALITATIVE standards for financial aid at Western, students must: **Complete at least 67% of the credits attempted each semester (This is a change from completing at least 6 credits each semester; AND **Student must maintain a CUMULATIVE grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0 (this is a change from having to receive a 2.0 EACH semester) Students who fail to meet these standards for two consecutive semesters will result in financial aid SUSPENSION and if allowed to appeal, MAY be required to complete an ACADEMIC PLAN. Failure to adhere to the Academic Plan, or the standards for SAP, may result in complete DENIAL of financial aid funding for the duration of attendance at Western. Students must also maintain the QUANTITATIVE standard of 150% or Maximum Timeframe. Once a student meets the maximum timeframe, all future aid may be DENIED as well. Academic Plans are also being used for students who reach their Maximum Timeframe. Students who have Academic Plans MUST adhere to their plan to continue to receive financial aid. New method of delivery Starting fall 2011, we will be sending MOST of our correspondence to students via EMAIL. This would include award notifications, missing information letters, Probation/Suspension letters, revised award notifications, etc. We will be sending the emails to the student’s Western email address. Western Cavaliers Volleyball will be holding an open try-out for any interested women's volleyball players! You can be part of a great, exciting new team!
