Congratulations!

Ashley Konichek, a second-year Automotive Technician student at Western Technical College, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship and Snap-On tools worth $3,500 from the Wisconsin Automobile and Truck Dealers Association.

Konichek was required to complete an application and pass a series of assessment evaluations to be eligible for the competitive scholarship. Applicants were also judged on transcripts, attendance, a letter of recommendation, and a personal interview.

She plans to use the money toward her final year of the program at Western and the tools can eventually be used at her new job.

I recently got a job as a quick service tech at a local dealership,” said Konichek. “So, once I advance a little, I’ll have some tools to use!”

Western’s Automotive instructors aren’t surprised that she was chosen for the honor. Currently the only second-year female student in the program, Konichek has excelled in her studies.

“Females who have an interest in the automotive repair field do really well in the program,” said Doug Thesing, program head. “Ashley is very bright and has a natural ability for the broad range of skills necessary to be a successful automotive technician today. It’s great that WATDA recognized her potential and rewarded her with the scholarship.”
