Program Overview

The IT-Computer Support Specialist program is a great fit for individuals who like to work with both technology and people. Students in the program will learn how to apply technology in their jobs, maintain and manage computer hardware and software; provide customer assistance and problem resolution along with assessing, developing and delivering training.

Computer Support Specialists receive requests to solve internal and external customer problems. These specialists use their attained knowledge, technical manuals and problem-solving tools to resolve problems and assist customers in applying technology to their jobs. They may evaluate and select hardware and software, assist in management of local-area networks (LANs) or maintain a support request tracking system. They may provide technical support as needed and keep customers apprised of progress and problem status. The Computer Support Specialist may also assess training needs, develop materials and deliver training. They often work with customers to solve business problems using a variety of software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web page development, accounting and communication packages. Additional skills emphasized in the program include teamwork, listening, work ethics and communication.
