Advanced standing is the granting of credit in an associate's degree or technical diploma program based on work done at another accredited educational institution. For example, you may have taken a course in high school that is very similar to a course at Western. If this is the case, there might be an agreement between your teacher and a Western faculty member, allowing you to receive advanced standing credit for the course. This means you do not have to take the course over again. Think about the money and time you'll save! Do your high school credits transfer?
The table below indicates what agreements your high school currently has with Western. If you have taken or are currently taking one of the agreed upon courses and you receive a "B" or better in the course ("A" for accounting), you can complete the Request For Transfer /Advanced Standing Credit Evaluation form and mail it to the address provided on the form to receive your advanced standing credit. You must attend Western or another technical college in Wisconsin to receive these credits.
Advanced standing needs to be requested during the admission process and prior to registration.
