LA CROSSE, Wis., Nov. 09, 2016 — Western Technical College alumni, Jeff and Brian Wieser, have been recognized by the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association as the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipients.
Jeff is a 1983 and Brian a 1986 graduate of the Wood Tech program at Western. They were recently honored at the Association’s Fall Banquet.
Each year, a Wisconsin Technical College graduate is recognized. From the nominations, a winner is selected based on five criteria:
- the role that a technical college education played in the nominee's career and personal life;
- the nominee's accomplishments in his/her professional field;
- the nominee's community involvement;
- his or her support for the technical college system; and, finally,
- the nominee's commitment to continuing education and life-long learning.
Jeff and Brian are owners of Wieser Brothers General Contractor. After graduating from Western, they worked as apprentice then journeyman carpenters and quickly progressed to job superintendents, building multi-million dollar projects. In 1994, they formed Wieser Brothers General Contractor, Inc., a family-owned and operated firm serving Wisconsin and Minnesota. Since that time, the business has grown from two employees to over 100; an estimated 80-85 percent of whom are Western Technical College graduates.
“Brian and Jeff epitomize the spirit of Western alumni—hard-working, skilled, leaders, and vital to the communities we serve,” said Sally Emerson, Alumni and Foundation manager at Western. “The Western Alumni Association is honored to have our graduates recognized statewide.”
Throughout the years, the Wiesers have maintained a strong relationship with the college. They established the Wieser Brothers General Contractor Endowed Scholarship, with 16 students having benefited from their generosity to date. They hire both students and graduates, not only from the Wood Tech program, but from business programs as well. Additionally, Jeff serves on the Western Foundation Board, Brian on the Wood Tech Advisory Committee; they sponsor the Western Scholarship Golf Outing; and they continue their legacy with their children also becoming Western alumni.
They are strong supporters of the communities they serve, having sponsored the Give to the Max Day, Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon, Steppin’ Out in Pink, United Way Pacesetter Campaign, and the Organic Valley Country Fair. They are also represented on the boards of the La Crosse Chamber of Commerce and Family & Children’s Center.
