Western Announces Construction Of New Veteran Military Center

Vet Center Groundbreaking

LA CROSSE, Wis., May 23, 2018 – Western Technical College announced Wednesday the construction of a new Veteran Military Center on the downtown La Crosse campus.

The 1,400-square-foot center will serve as the central facility for veterans at Western, located between the Business Education Center and Academic Resource Center on Western’s La Crosse campus. The space will include a lounge area, meeting space, student resources, and amenities for approximately 1,000 military connected students served each year. The $820,000 project is being funded cooperatively by the college, Western’s Foundation, and private donations.

“Veterans have always held an important part throughout Western’s history,” said Western President Roger Stanford. “The new Veteran Military Center will allow Western to continue to provide Veterans the tools and the education they need to be successful in the workforce following their service to our country.”

The center will assist veterans navigating the admissions process, and educate the campus community about Veteran military culture.

“The veteran’s journey is unique, often profound, and sometimes heartbreaking,” said Don Weber, Founder and Chairmen of Logistics Health, Inc., and champion of local efforts to improve services for veterans. “To have a space where our Veterans can find community among those who understand their experience is essential to supporting them in their education and professional growth. This Veteran Military Center will help us build stronger citizen-service members, stronger military families and a stronger future for all of us who depend upon them to protect and serve our nation.”

Construction is expected begin immediately, and be complete by the fall of this year.
