LA CROSSE, Wis., March 16, 2018 – Western Technical College and the Wisconsin Technical College System are pleased to recognize National Ag Day 2018 on Tuesday, March 20.
Agriculture is a major economic driver for the state of Wisconsin, contributing an estimated $88.3 billion annually to the state’s economy. The sector also provides hundreds of thousands of careers in every region of the state – 413,500 jobs, or 11.9 percent of the state’s employment, in food production and processing.
“Agriculture continues to be a dominant force in Wisconsin,” said Western Technical College President Roger Stanford. “With our academic programs, Western plays a vital role in fulfilling our agriculture needs locally.”
Western offers an associate’s degree in Agri-Business Science; technical diplomas in Farm Business & Production Management and Landscape Horticulture Technician; and certificates in Agronomy, Animal Science, Horticulture Plant Health Care. The college partners with local farmers and equipment manufacturers to provide experience that is relevant specifically to agriculture in the Midwest.
