LA CROSSE, Wis., May 2, 2022 – Western Technical College’s Avery Strangstalien won the national championship in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) competition in Hearthstone, an online collectable card game.
Strangstalien, a recent Digital Marketing graduate from West Salem, defeated one seed Terry from Hutchinson Community College (KS) 3-2 Saturday evening. This is the first individual championship for Western in Esports since the program was launched last year.
“We are so proud of Avery both as a student and team member,” said Cody Murphy, head coach of Western’s Esports team. “She has worked hard all season long, and we are fortunate to have been along side her through this memorable moment. Congratulations to Avery!”
