SPARTA, Wis. – The Western Technical College Sparta Campus will be hosting International Motorwërks’ Early Earth Day Odyssey. The event will be held on Thursday, April 10 from 8-9 a.m. and will feature Chris Schneider, Hybrid Guru, and two environmentally-friendly, alternative fuel vehicles. The public is invited to attend.
During his one-hour visit, Schneider will be offering rides in the CNG (compressed natural gas) Honda Civic GX and in the Columbia Mega NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle), screening educational videos about hybrid technology, and hosting a question and answer session.
“We will be visiting 40 campuses in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin in an effort to bring alternative fuel vehicle awareness to campuses, communities and the media,” says Schneider. “This will be an excellent opportunity for community members, college students, businesses, and the media to learn about the alternative fuels that are available for use right here in the Midwest — and to see how cost-effective, easy-to-use, and environmentally friendly they can be!”
“We see this as a great learning experience for our students,” says Pat Fisher, Sparta Campus administrator. “This new technology changes the way our public safety students approach an accident scene. We want our students to be aware of the new technology and have an opportunity to have training with these new types of vehicles.”
Each college campus is able to compete for a $6000 Green Education Award. The Green Education Award will be announced on Earth Day 2008.
