Published on Friday, August 15, 2008
Western Technical College-Independence Campus recently honored 10 students who completed an eight-week Skilled Nursing Assistant training course.
Participants were able to take all of their classes at the Independence Campus and complete the program in three morning sessions per week.
As certified skilled nursing assistants, the students are prepared for employment as entry-level nursing assistants in long-term care settings, hospitals, or adult day care facilities. Students are also eligible to take the competency test for the Nurse Aide Registry.
According to WORKnet (Wisconsin’s Workforce and Labor Market Information System) nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants are among the top 10 occupations in the state with the largest number of projected openings during the 2002-2012 time period. There are projected to be an average of 1,580 openings per year for these nursing assistant related jobs.
