Alex Quinones, of La Crosse, has been selected as the 2009-2010 Western Technical College Student Ambassador, an official spokesperson for Western and the Wisconsin Technical College System.

As Student Ambassador, Quinones will have opportunities to speak to potential students, community leaders, community groups, and others, and will spotlight the important role of technical and occupational education to the economy and society. In addition, he will represent Western at the state level by working with other student ambassadors throughout the WTCS.

Quinones is an Information Technology program student at Western. He, his wife, and three children moved to the La Crosse area from Florida after Hurricane Katrina. When he encountered problems getting a job, he enrolled at Western to update his technical skills.

Despite being relatively new to the area, Quinones has already become active in the community serving as a peer tutor. He also created a free basic computer class for his local neighborhood center and is a member of a student advisory panel for his program.
