Western seminars help streamline the office

Western Technical College is offering a series of seminars to help businesses streamline their office environment. The seminars will be held four consecutive Fridays in October, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the La Crosse Campus.
“5S for The Office” will be held Friday, Oct. 9. The goal of Office 5S is to remove what is not needed, place the necessary items at the point of use and create a clean, visual, high performance work space. This session will provide an introduction to Lean Office and strategies for becoming clean and lean.
“Administrative Value Stream Mapping” will be offered Friday, Oct. 16. A value stream includes all actions required to bring specific products or services from raw material through to the customer. Participants will learn the benefits of identifying both value-added and non-value-added steps in administrative processes and ways to eliminate processes that do not add value for customers.
“File Maintenance” on Friday, Oct. 23 will show participants how to maintain files the and how to determine what is necessary to keep and what can be purged.
“SMED: What does this mean for you in the office?” will be held Friday, Oct. 30. This session will cover strategies to ensure that files and documents are consistently maintained. Participants will also learn the benefit of creating templates for writing proposals, letters, and documents.
