Lee Rasch, president of Western Technical College, was recently presented with an award recognizing the college as a Patriotic Employer. The certificate was issued by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an organization within the Department of Defense.

A Patriotic Employer is described as someone who “contributes to national security and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.”

Rasch signed a statement of support for the Guard and Reserve, pledging that Western will fully recognize, honor, and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA); Western managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve; and Western will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.

The certificate was presented by Automotive Technician instructor Bob Marconi, a U.S. Navy Reservist who has been activated twice during his tenure with the college. Most recently, he was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008-2009.

“I have received tremendous support from the college,” said Marconi. “President Rasch, Dean Rich Westpfahl and my colleagues supported me and my family through well wishes, prayers and sending packages. Receiving letters and packages from friends back home sends the message that you are missed and supported, that will brighten any day. I am also very appreciative of the many who have thanked me for my service and welcomed me home.”
