Western Technical College is celebrating the completion of a 9,000-square-foot addition of its Sparta Public Safety Training Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The events will take place Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 4:15-6:00 p.m. at the 11177 County Rd. A location. Both are free and open to the public.

Local fire department and police department representatives will join Western students, staff, and District Board members in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:15 p.m. Following the ceremony, facility tours, demonstrations, and refreshments will be offered until 6:00 p.m.

Program demonstrations will include: Criminal Justice – shooting range, squad cars, and DAAT equipment; Emergency Medical Services – blood pressure checks, basic ECG, and mock code; and Fire Protection – tactical rescue demonstrations.

Tours will also include information on the sustainable aspects of the property. The construction and remodeling was completed with Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standards in mind, such as lighting and HVAC upgrades and control systems, replacement of corroded copper piping with plastic piping, and the conversion of turf grass to native meadows.
