Western Technical College’s Alumni Association awarded this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award to brothers Jeff and Brian Wieser, of La Crescent, Minn. They will be the keynote speakers at Western’s commencement on Saturday, April 26, and a special reception will be held in their honor prior to the ceremony.

The Wiesers are both graduates of Western’s Wood Tech program, Jeff in 1983 and Brian in 1986. After working in the industry for several years, they formed Wieser Brothers General Contractor, Inc., in La Crescent in 1994. Jeff manages the sales and support staff, handling the bidding process and maintaining the construction schedule. Brian oversees field operations, visiting job sites and ensuring quality control and safe operations.

Throughout the years, they have maintained a strong relationship with the college. They established the Wieser Brothers General Contractor Endowed Scholarship. They hire both students and graduates, not only from the Wood Tech program, but from the Business Education area as well. Additionally, Jeff serves on the Western Foundation Board.

“A Western education has been the starting point for so many successful alumni,” said Sally Emerson, alumni relations coordinator at Western. “Jeff and Brian are great representatives of those alumni who have taken advantage of their education to better their communities, profession, and families. They are wonderful role models for both our alumni and our students.”

Western’s Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes dedicated service to the community or nation, leadership, personal growth and achievement, professional achievement, and contributions to the Western district.
