Western Technical College received $35,250 in funding from Districts Mutual Insurance (DMI) - a municipal mutual insurance company founded by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). DMI has a long and successful history of helping WTCS colleges mitigate and eliminate risk.

Of the $35,250, $1,000 will be put toward a one-year subscription for an emergency messaging system for the emergency operations team, and $34,250 will be put toward the Kumm Center’s basement generator.

“Western is very appreciative of the generous support DMI provides,” said Amy Schmidt, controller for Western Technical College.

At their July 24 quarterly meeting, the Wisconsin Technical Colleges were awarded nearly $440,000 in Risk Management Project Awards from DMI. These funds will be utilized to address a variety of risk management issues, e.g. ARC Flash Studies, upgrades to facilities/equipment, and system-wide training efforts to name a few. Total funds requested from applications exceeded $1.2 million.

DMI provides property, general liability, workers’ compensation and other ancillary coverages for the WTCS Colleges, but according to Steven Stoeger-Moore, DMI president, “Besides keeping insurance costs stable for over a decade, DMI is truly known for the wide-range of value-added (no-cost) services it provides to its members, like the two DMI staff positions that exclusively support the colleges’ Risk Management efforts, donations to college Foundations, countless memberships, and now the Risk Management Project Award. DMI is a collaborative partner with the colleges that truly is focused on their success.”
