On Friday, May 12, Western Technical College will hold a commencement ceremony at the La Crosse Center, located in downtown La Crosse, honoring 1,219 graduates from all Western District campuses. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., and a reception for the graduates will follow in the North Hall of the La Crosse Center.
These students will be the last graduating class of Western Wisconsin Technical College. Future graduates will be under the college’s new name, Western Technical College, which took effect in March, 2006.
“Since these graduating students spent most of their time at the college when it was WWTC, we thought that they should graduate with that name on their diplomas,” said Lee Rasch, president of Western Technical College.
Of the 1,219 graduates, 535 will receive associate degrees and 263 will receive technical diplomas. There will be 277 graduating from the Certified Nursing Assistant program, and 127 will receive other certificates. An additional 17 will graduate from the apprenticeship program in various technical fields.
Western Technical College is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). Each year, more than 400,000 Wisconsin residents receive education and training from the state’s 16 technical colleges. In the 2004-05 academic year, the WTCS had 22,857 graduates.
