LA CROSSE, Wis. – Western Technical College is offering two eight-week courses for horse owners. Beginning this fall, the classes will discuss topics such as health, nutrition, and behavior of horses.

Equine Management will meet Thursdays beginning August 31, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Discussion topics will include functional anatomy, preventative medicine, proper hoof care and balance, preventative maintenance, behavior and training, and barn and pasture maintenance. This one-credit class will be taught in La Crosse, but is also available as an online course.

Students enrolled in the Equine Management class can also sign up for a one-credit clinic. Demonstration labs will be held on three Saturdays in September-October from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the La Crosse area. The labs will cover pre-purchase exams, identifying lameness, selection and proper fitting of equipment, general horse behavior and training, and natural horsemanship.

Equine First Aid and Treatment is a one-credit class held Tuesdays, beginning October 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the La Crosse campus. Topics covered include identifying and managing emergencies, applying proper bandaging, and assembling a first aid kit.
