Western Technical College to host Volunteer Fair
Published on Friday, October 20, 2006
On Tuesday, Oct. 31, students, faculty, and staff at Western Technical College will be participating in the fourth annual Volunteer Fair. The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Kumm Center cafeteria, 400 6th St. N.,
The fair provides an opportunity for local organizations to reach Western’s student population to increase awareness and encourage community involvement. The event also serves as a working lab for students in the Service-Based Speech/Written Communication course. These students volunteer with a community service agency and are able to apply speaking skills learned in the classroom as they represent their organizations at the event.
La Crosse area agencies that will be represented at the fair include 21st Century Community Learning Centers, American Red Cross, Bethany Riverside, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Coulee Region, Catholic Charities, Coulee Council on Addictions, Coulee Region Humane Society, Family Resources, Girl Scouts of Riverland Council, GOAL, Habitat ReStore, HorseSense, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, La Crosse County 4-H, New Horizons, Riverfront, Salvation Army, X-Treme Opportunity, and YES AmericCorps.
