Western Technical College’s Alumni Association will be presenting this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award to Debra Limberg of West Salem. Limberg will be honored at a special reception following Western’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 11.

Limberg, a 1990 graduate of the Marketing/Retail program, currently owns The Wedding Tree in downtown La Crosse. She purchased the business in 1996 and since that time has quadrupled its annual sales and added several new lines, including tuxedoes and prom dresses. The Wedding Tree is currently ranked in the top 20 percent of all wedding stores in the nation in terms of square footage and annual sales.

Since graduation, Limberg has continued her ties to Western. She has taught Intro to Business and Promotion Principles courses, she volunteers on the Marketing Program Advisory Committee, and gives seminars on marketing. Limberg has also been invited as a guest speaker to area colleges and high schools to help students get an understanding of what the marketing field has to offer.

“She was selected for this honor because she has distinguished herself in both her personal and professional life and truly represents the best that Western has to offer,” said Sally Emerson, alumni relations coordinator for Western. “We are very proud of Deb and her achievements.”

Past recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award are Dick Walz, Keith Steenlage, Terry Rydberg, Michael Sexauer, Kathy Foust, Jeff Komay, Cinda Vingers, Donald Jobe, Lynn Smyrk-Lenz, Kevin Kobishop, Karen Long, Karl “Butch” Halverson, Jim Timm, and Dick Fox.
