LA CROSSE, WIS—For the first time in the event’s history, Western is a partner in Money Smart Week Wisconsin, occurring October 7th–13th. This week-long event is designed to promote financial literacy in Wisconsin. Western will be hosting 13 of the 55 free seminars being held in the greater La Crosse area on a variety of financial literacy topics.

Three of Western’s instructors, who are experts in their field, will be presenting seminars during the week-long event. Jenny Parker, Finance instructor, will present “Women and Finance,” which will give women the opportunity to understand goals and objectives by setting up a plan and look at obstacles that women all face in having the retirement they want. Linda Lueck, Accounting instructor, will present “Introduction to Income Tax,” which will help you identify what form to file and the various ways to file your return: efile, free file, Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA), or using a paid preparer. And David Wright, Lifelong Learning instructor, will present “Consumer Insurance Knowledge,” which will include discussion on general insurance information, including home, auto and business lines and learning basic knowledge that will save you money. All seminars are free and open to the public.

Money Smart Week Wisconsin was started by the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy, a council created by Governor Jim Doyle to help improve financial literacy in Wisconsin. It targets all 72 counties in Wisconsin. The goal of Money Smart Week Wisconsin is to help consumers find the resources needed close to home. This is the first year Money Smart Week Wisconsin is offering public seminars in the Greater La Crosse Area.
