La Crosse, Wis. — Western Technical College formally installed Kirk Bennett as its eighth president Tuesday, September 1st during the college's annual kickoff of the fall term, marking an important milestone in the institution's history.
District Board Chair Kevin Hennessey led the ceremony and formally invested Bennett with the responsibilities and authority of the office. The event brought together Western employees and board members to celebrate the college’s next chapter of leadership.
“Kirk embodies Western's values, and his background aligns perfectly with our mission,” said Hennessey. “We are confident in his leadership and look forward to working with him as Western continues serving our students, employers, and communities.”
Following the installation, Bennett addressed Western employees and encouraged them to embrace a shared commitment. He asked them to see each student as an individual, meet them where they are, believe in their potential, and trust in the collective work happening across the college.
“I’m honored to lead Western at such an important time for our students and the communities we serve,” said Bennett. “Western has a strong foundation, and I look forward to building on it by listening, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring the college continues to respond to the changing needs of our region.”
In his first month as president, Bennett met with many employees and community partners throughout Western’s district. Once classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, students will also have several opportunities to meet with him.
“My goal is to be present, accessible, and engaged on campus and throughout the communities Western serves,” Bennett said.
