Citation Resources

When writing a research paper, always confirm which citation style your instructor wants you to use. Instructors sometimes develop their own unique methods, but the APA and MLA standards are the most commonly used formats at Western.

Citation Builders

Programs exist that automatically create citations in various styles. The best ones require purchase, but some websites will construct citations in desired formats for free. CAUTION: These programs have flaws, always carefully examine the records that they produce before inserting them into a “Works Cited” or “References” page.

Answers to Writing Questions

In addition to Western’s Online Writing Center, Purdue’s Owl Writing Lab and the Owens Library at Northwest Missouri State University provide examples of APA and MLA formats.
