On-Campus Student Employment

Federal Work-Study is a need-based program awarded through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If eligible, you may earn up to your awarded amount as listed in your Financial Aid Self Service, or until Western’s allocation is reached. Students are paid semi-monthly based on hours worked.

Details:

• Pay Rate: $14 per hour
• Hours: Up to 12 hours per week (fall & spring)
• Summer: Up to 25 hours per week (based on enrollment)

Many departments across campus hire students for roles that do not require Federal Work-Study eligibility. Much like, Federal Work-Study positions, these positions are a great way to get involved, build leadership skills, and contribute to campus life. Examples of hiring departments include The SPACE, Wellness Center, Basic Needs Center, Campus Community Safety, and more.

Campus dining offers flexible employment opportunities for students.

Details:

• Pay Rate: $14 per hour
• Hours: based on availability, up to 20 hours a week
• Schedule: Union Market is open 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Fridays during Spring and Fall terms. Most work hours fall within that timeframe. Catering schedule is variable.

Peer tutors support fellow students while strengthening their own understanding of course material, building leadership and communication skills, and gaining experience and certifications that strengthen their resumes. Tutors are trained and supported by the Learning Commons and must meet course-specific qualifications. Tutors work in-person as well as virtually.

Details:

• Pay Rate: $14 per hour for Western students currently enrolled in 6 or more credit hours 
• Hours: Negotiable/ maximum of 15hrs per week
• Requirements: Demonstrated competency of course material, ability to work with others, recommended by Learning Commons staff or faculty, successful completion of interview, background check, paperwork, and onboarding training

Western Scouts are student leaders who help welcome and connect prospective students to campus. Scouts assist with campus tours, visit days, and new student orientation.

• Hours: 12 hours per week, on average 
• Requirements: Must be a currently enrolled student
