Fire Local Assistance Funded Courses
These courses are available to fire departments and are comprised of the basic firefighting courses, as well as courses required for various firefighter certifications offered by the Wisconsin Technical College System. Courses are funded through the 2% Fire Local Assistance Fund. There is no charge to district fire department personnel taking these courses with approval of their department.
These courses have a state mandated 100% attendance requirement. Sponsoring fire departments will be billed for the full cost of a student’s tuition if the student misses any portion of the class. All courses require a minimum of 12 students.
Hazardous Materials and FEMA/National Fire Academy Courses
These courses are funded by grants from either the Wisconsin Division of Emergency Management or the federal government. Funds are limited and are paid out on a first-come, first-served basis. County and State Department of Emergency Management approval is required for all hazardous materials classes.
Un-Funded (Fee) Courses
Fee courses are available through Western for a fee that is paid for by the student or their public safety organization. Fee courses are generally advanced or targeted skills courses. They are offered on a rotating basis as determined by district needs.
Western customizes courses that are designed for a specific organizational audience at a specific time and/or location. These courses may consist of existing training courses or topics designed specifically for your organization.
