This program is specifically designed for those with a minimum of 40 accredited college-level credits who seek to meet Wisconsin certification requirements as a law enforcement officer. In this role, you'll be responsible for the preservation of law and order in your community. You'll learn numerous skills related to the profession of law enforcement. Your training will also include crime prevention, crime investigation, vehicle patrols, and assisting the public.

This program includes in-class fitness training and other physical education such as defensive tactics and fire arms training. You'll have plenty of opportunities to practice your skills with hands-on training and scenario-based field simulations.

The following requirements must be met by students enrolling in preparatory law enforcement officer training:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a general educational development diploma or be a high school graduate.
  • Possess either a two‐year associate degree from a Wisconsin technical college system district or its accredited equivalent from another state or a minimum of 40‐accredited credits (semester credits) or 90‐accredited quarter credits.
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in Wisconsin.
  • Must not have been convicted of any federal felony or of any offense which if committed in Wisconsin could be punished as a felony unless the applicant has been granted an absolute and unconditional pardon.
  • Must not have been convicted of any misdemeanor crime of domestic violence unless the applicant has been granted an absolute and unconditional pardon.
  • Be citizens of the United States.
  • Undergo a medical assessment by a Wisconsin licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner to verify that they can meet the physical standards required of a law enforcement officer.
  • Complete a satisfactory oral interview with a panel of law enforcement executives or with teaching or counseling staff affiliated with the training school to determine suitability for law enforcement employment and to assess applicant demeanor, background and ability to communicate.

Cost for the 720 Academy

The cost for the 720 Law Enforcement Academy is $5,000. This is based upon an estimated $3,700 tuition costs and an additional estimated $1,300 for law enforcement skills evaluation fees.

Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary

Western's Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) program offers short-term, targeted training for working dental professionals looking to broaden their responsibilities under a dentist's supervision. Through classroom and laboratory instruction, you'll learn to place and finish restoration material, apply sealants, perform coronal polishing, take impressions, and perform other newly approved procedures that streamline patient care and may enhance earning potential.

The program includes 30 clinical experiences completed at your place of employment or another approved dental office so you can immediately apply what you learn.

The Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary program runs for 8-10 weeks, primarily on Fridays and the weekends with some weeknight live lectures to attend. It is designed to accommodate working individuals, providing them with continued education opportunities to up-skill without missing work.

What is an Advanced Technical Certificate?

An advanced technical certificate at Western builds on your existing education and experience. These specialized programs are designed to deliver career-focused skills in a condensed timeframe, helping you move forward quickly in your field. By completing the EFDA advanced technical certificate, you’ll gain the competencies needed to support a busy dental practice and contribute to more efficient patient care.

As a prerequisite to program enrollment, an applicant must have satisfied either 1 or 2 below.

  1. Applicants must have a Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB) certified dental assist credential and a minimum of 1,000 hours of dental assistant practice.
    OR
  2. Applicants must have a minimum of 2,000 hours of dental assistant practice, as verified by the supervising licensed dentist. Return this Employee Verification Letter (PDF) to admissions@westerntc.edu.

Additional Admissions Information

  • After admission to the college, you will be considered a pre-core nursing student. Admission to core classes in the Nursing program is based on application date and successful completion of the academic preparedness requirements for the program. Students are able to apply for financial aid and take general education courses to meet academic preparedness requirements as a pre-core nursing student. There is an estimated wait time of approximately 5-6 terms between admission to the college and beginning core Nursing courses.
  • Evaluation to determine those that have met all program admissions requirements will take place on the following dates. Students will be notified through their Western student email if selected for the next cohort to start core Nursing program courses.
    • February 16, 2026 for summer term
    • June 15, 2026 for fall term

Most of Western’s classes require the use of a personal computer or laptop, standard software, internet access, and other technology-related items.

As a human services associate, you will provide crucial information, resources, support, and advocacy for those facing a wide range of challenges. Western's program combines classroom instruction and field experience activities to give you the skills necessary to assist diverse groups of youth and adults dealing with issues like poverty, discrimination, child abuse, homelessness, addictions, physical and mental health problems, and disabilities.

Graduates find employment opportunities in various agencies, including county human services, community-based organizations, residential treatment programs, and other settings dedicated to assisting individuals in need. Additionally, you have the option to pursue a bachelor degree in social work or related human service programs through Western's transfer opportunities.
