The resources listed below will help you explore careers and programs.
TypeFocus is an online assessment that matches your personality, interests, and more, to potential career matches. Hundreds of Western students have found TypeFocus helpful in deciding on a program or career.
To take the TypeFocus career assessment:
- Click this link and register as a first-time user.
- Complete the registration and take the assessment.
- When finished, click on “Report” at the top of the screen, check the boxes "My Personality Results", "My Interest Results", and "My Skills Results". If you saved occupations or majors, check the boxes “My Saved Occupations” and “My Saved Majors”. Then scroll down and click on “Submit”. (This video walks you through the process.)
- Contact Career Services to set up an appointment to review your results with a Career Coach.

O*Net is a fantastic resource with up-to-date information on nearly every career you can imagine. Find average salaries, educational requirements, work duties, and more, for each occupation. O*Net also matches jobs to your interest codes from our TypeFocus career assessment.
Candid Career provides short “day in the life” videos of professionals describing their occupations. Learn more about what it’s like to work in a particular career.
This Salary Calculator provides typical salary information based on occupation, region, experience, and more.
Explore Western’s programs individually or by career cluster. Each page includes an Explore Courses button, which shows a complete list of courses in that program. And each course includes an Outcome Summary, which lists in detail the concepts taught in that course.
