Western Technical College Announces Student Ambassador

Amanda Coughlin

LA CROSSE, Wis., April 13, 2017 – Amanda Coughlin, of La Crosse, Wis., has been selected as the 2017-18 Western Technical College Student Ambassador, an official spokesperson for Western and the Wisconsin Technical College System.

As Student Ambassador, Coughlin will have opportunities to speak to potential students, community leaders, community groups, and others, and will spotlight the important role of technical and occupational education to the economy and society. In addition, she will represent Western at the state level by working with other student ambassadors throughout the WTCS.

Coughlin is a Computer Support Specialist program student, who is also a member of the student government, a club leader, involved in the work-study program, and a tutor.

“Amanda will be an excellent Western Ambassador,” said Jacque Schreiner, Development Officer for the Western Foundation, who nominated Coughlin for the honor. “She is an example of the hope and skill development Western provides. Her drive to succeed and help others will benefit her greatly in this role. I’m very proud of Amanda’s accomplishments.”

Coughlin chose to attend Western to obtain her two-year degree after completing her HSED through Western in 2008. Coughlin initially enrolled into the Agri-Business program, but later settled on the Computer Support Specialist program.

“I value the hands-on experience you receive at Western,” said Coughlin. “I also value the overall atmosphere and the community of everyone who works here. Beyond a shadow of doubt, I know that this is the place I want to continue to be a part of!”

Coughlin is looking at her opportunity as Student Ambassador as a chance for personal and professional growth.

“I love helping others discover their potential,” said Coughlin. “As the Student Ambassador, I hope to be a positive role model to others who perhaps never thought that going to college would be a viable option for them. I am a single parent, enrolled in school full time, working part time, and involved in the community.”
